When Sutter Street’s Hacienda del Rio, a Folsom institution for 37 years, shut down at the end of 2022, Michael Sanson went to work.
Rebranding it as Hacienda Real Mexican Grill and Cantina, Sanson has given the restaurant a fresh new look and menu.
With a theme that might be described as ‘Dia de Los Muertos meets the Old West’ the décor includes large format paintings, cattle skulls on walls, and a ‘los muertos’ wrapped bar as the centerpiece.
The popular deck, sitting above the corner of Riley and Sutter, features all hi-top seating, allowing diners views of the Historic District from any seat. Retractable awnings replace the umbrellas, giving it an indoor-outdoor feel.
Indoor seating features comfortable booths, most with their own views of the District, some looking toward Lake Natoma.
Hacienda Real is located at 702 Sutter St in Folsom and officially opens Tuesday, March 21 at 4pm. Check it out!
