Local Father’s Face (and life) Saved by Bike Helmet

AJ is the husband of a former colleague of mine. They have a 1 year old son, and are just starting out their lives together.

Last weekend, AJ went dirt bike riding and crashed, face first.

When I saw the photo, I asked for permission to post it.

As you can see, the front of the helmet was broken, the goggles covering his eyes were gouged and scratched, and a rock was lodged in the jaw area.

I can only imagine what would have happened to AJ without that helmet

He survived with some bumps, bruises and road rash, but that helmet saved his life.

He is now free to be a husband to his wife and a father to his son.

Please folks, wear a helmet when riding. It doesn’t only happen with dirt-biking. I have a friend who was going for a short ride in the Historic District, without a helmet. His wife insisted that he wear one, and he crashed a few minutes later, hitting his head on the pavement. Another person saved by a helment, another husband, father and grandfather enjoying life.

Folsom bike trails are spectacularly beautiful in the fall, but they can also be more dangerous, with falling leaves which can cause slips and/or hide cracks and bumps.

I’m going for a ride on them tomorrow, and will be damn sure I wear my helmet!

Be safe out there!
