Ground breaking is set for this Thursday, for the Johnny Cash Trail.

The first phase is a 2.5 mile Class 1 bike trail which will run from the Folsom Civic Center, along the southern edge of the Folsom prison grounds,  and connect with the American River Bike Trail and Folsom Lake Crossing.

A bridge across East Natoma will complete that segment of the trail, and will have architectural features to reflect the gates of the prison itself.

The City of Folsom hopes to create a fitting tribute to the legacy of Johnny Cash along the trail by creating a world-class public art installation featuring visual and audio art and interpretive information about the famed musician’s life and connection to Folsom.

A second phase of the trail will branch off and go directly to the prison gates.

The ground breaking is set for 3pm on Thursday February 27th, rain or shine, at the corner of East Natoma and Lake Natoma Crossing.

Cash’s daughter Cindy and Folsom Mayor Kerri Howell are among the dignitaries expected to be in attendance.
