City to Shut Down Minimum Security Prison

Due to the fact that the city is losing about $1.4 million a year running a 430-bed minimum-security prison, City Manager Martha Clark-Lofgren is recommending that it is shut down at the end of the fiscal year. Currently the city’s trash gets sorted and recycled at this facility, but has been losing money for some time. 63 city employees will lose their jobs if the prison is cut. The prison is next to, but not related to Folsom State Prison. More is in the Telegraph and the Bee.
